WIND sets sail with Policy Management

Italian provider WIND has chosen to use a policy management solution to offer a single service offering to all its customers. The provider – who offers mobile as well as a range of fixed line services – rolled out a platform that allows convergent AAA, Policy and Charging Control and this means greater control over network capacity, while allowing customers greater control over their own destinies. By taking an intelligent, collaborative approach to restricting customers’ usage, the company is dramatically increasing the capacity of its network and supporting their customers in a more intuitive way.

The key, according to a senior executive at Volubill, the system supplier, is that while their normal conversation is with IT, the guys in Marketing are beginning to put pressure on IT for these kinds of solutions. Showing “use cases, such as ‘Happy Hour’ for bandwidth to Marketing is a revelation, and knowing that they can control the promotions themselves makes it even more compelling.”

As well as adding this flexibility and control to their offerings, it also saved WIND from having to buy a completely new solution, just ahead of the major investments companies in this situation will be making in LTE in the near future.

BillingViews’ verdict: an excellent example of intelligent use of policy management. More details here.
