State of Mobile Security 2012 – Toll Fraud on the Increase

Two stories and one anecdote during the last 14 hours have brought a new menace to our attention – Toll Fraud. Currently prevalent in Eastern Europe and Russia, it is malware for profit and accounted for 62% of malware and spyware attacks in Q2 2012. Subex also spotlight it, along with this quarter’s fraud updates.

The anecdote – I was talking to someone who runs an e-commerce business from the West Coast (of Scotland – the middle of nowhere). One of his customers was caught by Toll Fraud, booking a quiet country cottage, paying £1,800 to the ‘merchant’, receiving receipts and acknowledgements, even directions to the cottage – all from a fraudster (with a wicked sense of humour).

Beware Toll Fraud – spread the word.

State of Mobile Security 2012. Via TalkRA and an excellent analysis.
