Convergys announced it has launched a new version of its Rating & Billing Manager which provides standards-based, real-time policy control that links the network interface to billing and charging. In addition, the new solution brings real-time promotion capabilities to identify up-sell opportunities proactively. Convergys is deploying this new version to Colombia’s UNE, one of the first providers of 4G wireless service in South America. According to Convergys, UNE sought a convergent billing system that would also provide a real-time view of customer data and faster time-to-market of personalized promotions.
This announcement adds to the ongoing trend in the market in which billing is closely associated with real-time charging, analytics, and policy-based controls that manage promotions and service delivery. Whereas billing was once firmly managed as a post-facto or offline process, it now increasingly plays a customer- and service-facing role and is central to processes like service delivery and real-time recommendations as well as being a primary source for feeding analytical processes that examine and predict customer behavior.
